Omega Logistics is een logistieke dienstverlener, gespecialiseerd in de farmaceutische en zorgsector. Sinds de oprichting heeft het bedrijf een stormachtige groei doorgemaakt en in 2015 is het bedrijf onderdeel geworden van Jan de Rijk. Omega Logistics heeft depots in Alkmaar, Zwolle en Houten. Vanuit deze depots kan het bedrijf in principe elke klant in Nederland binnen twee uur bedienen.
Tailormade conditioned transport
Jordi: "We transport medical products, which means that transportation and transport conditions are very important. After all, in almost all cases, lives are involved and that is a great responsibility that we take very seriously. For example, it is very important to us that the products are transported at the right temperature. We use various solutions for this purpose, including large refrigerators and mobile refrigeration units with temperature sensors. Broadly speaking, the process is as follows: we transport the products from the wholesaler to our distribution centre in Houten, and from there we transport them in smaller vehicles to the depots or to the customers. The products are generally packaged in secondary crates, which are provided with an instruction regarding the storage conditions. Those storage instructions can be roughly divided into standard transport with a temperature between 15 and 25 degrees or a temperature between 2 and 8 degrees. Depending on these instructions, transportation can either be by standard transport or in a vehicle equipped with a mobile refrigeration unit where the products can be kept between certain temperature values. These refrigeration units are GDP (Good Distribution Practice) certified, ensuring the level of quality around the drug distribution network".
INSIGHT INTO THE CURRENT TRANSPORT CONDITIONS ANYTIME, ANYWHERE
Smaller vehicles are used for transport to the various customers in order to ensure optimal and efficient driving. Both the vehicles and the mobile refrigeration units are equipped with GPS-Buddy systems. Jordi: "We have our own fleet of about 30 cars that are equipped with a vehicle tracking system and temperature sensors. In addition, all mobile refrigeration units are also equipped with a vehicle tracking system and temperature sensors. There are several reasons why we also equipped the refrigeration units with this equipment. In addition to our own vehicles, we also work with subcontractors; by equipping the refrigeration units with a track&trace solution, we can continuously see the exact location of these units. In addition, there may be products in a vehicle that are transported at the temperature in the car, while at the same time, products are transported in the refrigeration units in the same vehicle. The refrigeration unit solution is further equipped with a battery pack so that it can effortlessly run independently for 12 hours. This way, we can always demonstrate the conditions under which the products were transported. The combination of these different types of transport also ensures maximum flexibility for the customer and optimal and efficient use of vehicle space".
FLEXIBILITY AND CUSTOMER FOCUS
Omega Logistics offers its clients maximum flexibility not only in transportation, but also in supply options. For example, it offers pharmacies the opportunity to be supplied at night. In that case, the products are placed in a goods locker or, if desired, moved into the pharmacy's refrigeration unit after which the refrigeration unit is taken back again. However, this flexibility requires a great sense of responsibility. "We obviously take this service very seriously, we even go so far as to equip the key rings with the keys and e.g. alarm keys with certain equipment, so that we always have insight into where they are and can act quickly in case of questions. Of course, we also made sure that this equipment is not so easy to remove. How we did that? I won't go into detail about that, of course."
CUSTOM REPORTS
Omega Logistics doesn't just use the Studio application from GPS-Buddy to keep track of all the vehicles and containers that are on the road every day. Its reporting options are also of particular importance to the company. "It is for good reason that people always say that 'to measure is to know'. We use various reporting options, of course to give our customers insight at all times into the temperature at which products have been transported, but we actually take it one step further when it comes to transport conditions. Because we work with a CANbus link, we have insight into the driving behaviour of a driver and fuel consumption, among other things. This information can be used to encourage drivers to improve their driving behaviour even further, but also helps us understand which vehicles are fuel efficient." This way, smart technology is helping Omega Logistics perfect its service even further.
