What is Check in at Work?

Check in at Work (also checkinatwork) is a Belgian legal obligation to digitally register presence on the construction site. The registration must take place daily, before the start of work.

For whom is Check in at Work mandatory?

For every contractor, subcontractor, self-employed person and temporary worker on a construction site with a project value from €500,000 excl. VAT. This also applies to foreign companies that are active on those construction sites.

Why Check in at Work via Flowter?

From what amount is Check in at Work mandatory?

The obligation applies to construction sites with a total project value of €500,000 or more, excluding VAT.

Why was Check in at Work introduced?

Check in at Work was introduced to combat fraud in the construction sector. By digitally registering presence, the government has insight into who is working on a construction site and whether all social obligations are being met.

From when is Check in at Work mandatory?

Check in at Work was introduced on 1 April 2014, when the law of 8 December 2013 came into force. Since then the obligation applies to construction sites with a project value from €500,000 excl. VAT.

Who is responsible for the registration?

The main contractor is responsible for the presence registration of the entire chain, including subcontractors, self-employed persons and temporary workers.

Does Check in at Work also apply to self-employed persons?

Yes. Self-employed contractors and subcontractors are obliged to register their presence, just like employees in employment.

How does Check in at Work work via an app?

Via the Flowter app the employee logs in and the app automatically shows the nearby construction sites based on GPS. The employee chooses the correct site and checks in. No extra hardware, no manual searching.
