Connected transport is the standard for transport and logistics, which revolves around better traffic flow, traffic safety, cost savings, CO2 reduction and managing and shortening waiting times.
How nice would it be if you could influence traffic lights and know when they change colour?
More and more devices around us are becoming 'smart', including traffic lights (iVRIs). Thanks to these smart traffic lights, you have a 40% higher chance of getting a green light, and you also know when a light is about to change colour, to be able to drive through calmly.
More frequent green lights mean less downtime, so you keep moving more often.
Studies show that every stop and acceleration of a truck costs between €0.50 and €3 in fuel alone. Especially when driving in urban areas, with a fair number of stopping and accelerating movements per day, litres of fuel can be saved and there is less wear and tear. If half a minute to 3 minutes is added per stop, the driving time savings are also significant, up to 15% per day.
This could easily be a saving of several thousand euros a year*.
Such a simple thing as being able to drive through at the traffic light thus yields considerable benefits. Not only for the company, but also for the environment through reduced CO2 emissions (which as of 1 January will also count towards the CO2 performance ladder in the Netherlands), less damage to the road surface and less noise pollution.
The Netherlands is at the forefront of this development, with around 1,300 smart traffic lights increasing at a rapid pace. This progress is also spreading rapidly in Belgium and the Nordic countries, where similar projects are being implemented.
In this innovative world of smart transport solutions, GPS-Buddy is one of the first companies to be officially certified by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Waterways!
