Data from vehicles available faster and smarter for fleet management

GPS-Buddy integrates the Beijer CAN Library in vehicle tracking system XT4

GPS-Buddy, provider of intelligent Fleet & Asset Management solutions, and Beijer Automotive, specialist in universal access to complex in-vehicle data, have entered into a strategic partnership. The Beijer CAN Library has been integrated by GPS-Buddy into the chip of the latest vehicle tracking system XT4. With the Beijer CAN Library in the XT4, CAN data from fossil and electric passenger vehicles and light commercial vehicles is directly translated and communicated to the software of GPS-Buddy. In this way, GPS-Buddy offers a single platform with all relevant data and services, all of which are modularly expandable.

Various Solutions

GPS-Buddy provides various solutions where accurate data from the CAN bus in a vehicle is necessary, such as Certified Trip Registration, automated CO2 reporting, or Driver Behavior. For these examples, a wide range of signals is required from different brands and types of passenger vehicles and light commercial vehicles, such as pure kilometers, fuel/battery consumption, braking actions, engine speed, speed, accelerator pedal movements, and the use of the seat belt or not, etc. "In principle, we develop all hardware and software in-house. But with a multitude of vehicles, it is impossible to translate all different data into our own system. Beijer Automotive has been a specialist in CAN data from vehicles for over 30 years. They have built the most extensive library of various brands and types of passenger vehicles and light commercial vehicles that are read and translated into understandable data. The quality of the signals is very high, fast, and offers a high degree of flexibility," says Oscar van der Spruit, COO of GPS-Buddy. "Therefore, we have chosen to integrate their software into our system. We can guarantee that the data is pure and configurable for virtually all applications." "Modern vehicles are full of sensors that generate data for optimal vehicle operation, but also to inform the driver. This data can also be used to optimize business processes," says Ronald de Beijer, CEO of Beijer Automotive. "And that is exactly where GPS-Buddy's expertise lies when it comes to fleet and equipment management."

Huuskes customer case

Connected data

The integration of the Beijer CAN Library into GPS-Buddy's XT4 chip eliminates the need for customers to install different types of hardware in the vehicle. In addition to CAN bus data from the Beijer CAN Library, the XT4 also displays data from GPS, tachograph and sensors in one system. This combination ensures that GPS-Buddy customers have a grip on all moving objects in the organisation and can easily comply with various legal obligations, such as environmental reporting and mandatory trip recording.

The software-based solution ensures that customers can easily adapt it to future developments. Adding new vehicles or signals, for example, is no problem. These are measured remotely and the data is available within days. With the increase in electric vehicles, it is also easy to show the charging status of an electric vehicle, making it clear whether a vehicle is deployable or needs to be charged first.
