GPS-Buddy visiting the People Work Technology café

How Data and Automation Transform the Work of the First-Line Worker

Every last Tuesday of the month, Richard Bordes and HP van Tilburg host guests from the world of ICT at a Managed Service Provider (MSP) ISP, Vendor or distributor on location. In an hour-long digital talk show, interspersed with music, new guests are constantly talking about all the trends and developments in the world of People Work Technology. This time, the broadcast was held at our Almere office.

This edition took place at a special location: the headquarters of GPS-Buddy in Almere. A place where technology, data, and hands-on experience come together to help companies work smarter with their vehicles, machines, and equipment.

Technology for the First-Line Worker

The central theme of this episode was the first-line worker — the employees who are on the move every day: operating machinery, driving vehicles, or working on-site at project locations.
Their work is essential for every organisation, yet often complex and heavily dependent on logistics, planning, and communication.

How can they work more efficiently, safely, and with less administrative burden?
That question formed the core of this edition’s discussions.

GPS-Buddy at the Table: Efficiency Through Automation

Representing GPS-Buddy, Oscar van der Spruit (COO) and Desmond van Kooten (CCO) joined the conversation with Richard and HP. They explained how GPS-Buddy helps organisations automate and optimise their operations with smart IoT solutions for fleet and asset management.

Oscar explained:

“The first-line worker is the backbone of every field-based organisation — whether it’s a driver, operator, or technician. Without real-time insight into vehicles, machines, and materials, efficiency is impossible. We bring that world into view — literally and digitally.”

Using GPS-Buddy’s technology, vehicles, machines, and other assets are continuously monitored through IoT hardware such as the XT4 tracking unit and AT4 asset tracker. All data is collected within Flowter, the central platform that provides full visibility into asset location, usage, uptime, and performance.

Desmond added:

“Data only becomes valuable when it helps people work better. That’s why we focus on technology that supports the workforce — reducing downtime and simplifying processes.”

Live Demo: Technology in Action

During the broadcast, one of our Technical Service Engineers demonstrated the GPS-Buddy solution live.
Viewers could see how real-time tracking, reporting, and maintenance alerts are automatically combined in a single, intuitive dashboard.

The demo showcased:
- Real-time location data for vehicles and machines
- Automatic trip and operating-hour registration
- Smart maintenance alerts to prevent downtime
- Direct communication with the field via the Driver App

These insights help companies plan, report, and optimise their operations every day — especially in sectors like construction, infrastructure, logistics, and field service.

Innovation and Recognition

During the show, GPS-Buddy’s Account Manager Yannick Bevers was nominated for the First-Line Worker Award 2024 by People Work Technology — a recognition of his dedication to helping customers digitally transform their operational processes.

This nomination reflects GPS-Buddy’s ongoing commitment to the people behind the technology — because behind every data point is a team making a real-world impact.

From Data to Action

GPS-Buddy’s participation in the People Work Technology Café reinforces a key belief: technology is only valuable when it empowers people to work smarter.

With our solutions for fleet management, asset tracking, and process automation, we help organisations gain real-time control over all their moving assets — enabling them to:
increase operational efficiency
reduce downtime
lower costs
and improve sustainability through data-driven insights

That’s where People, Work, and Technology truly converge — and where GPS-Buddy makes the difference.
