Innovative solutions provide insight and overview

The construction and infrastructure sector is developing rapidly. Sustainable business, asset tracking and the CO2 performance ladder are the order of the day. With innovative and easily accessible fleet management solutions, GPS-Buddy supports businesses in keeping up with these developments and even taking the lead.

“Within five years we expect all moving assets, from vehicles and work equipment to tools, to be equipped with smart technology. By connecting them to the organisations and individuals they serve, it is possible to track, monitor and manage them. This creates space to optimise processes and use resources such as time, people, equipment and fuel more efficiently. Our aim is to make this development available to all companies in the construction and infrastructure sectors”, says Desmond van Kooten, CSO at GPS-Buddy.

DETERMINE RUNNING MACHINE HOURS AND GAIN (COMPETITIVE) ADVANTAGE

The CO2 Performance Ladder is an important tool in the tendering process. The ranking of this has a direct impact on the tender price or the award by the client. Determining this is often a time-consuming task. By calculating running hours based on machine-specific parameters, the CO2 emissions become easily visible. The machine hours module also paves the way for proactive planning of periodic maintenance, thus preventing downtime.

FULL OVERVIEW OF ASSETS, LARGE AND SMALL

How often does it happen that the location of a saw table or a drilling machine is not known? Tracking them down takes a lot of time and effort, and so it's faster to buy a new one. Several solutions exist to track assets but the use of batteries, the need for a data subscription and the location accuracy makes them especially suitable for larger equipment. “The asset tracker solution we are developing now works differently. It is based on RF (Radio Frequency) technology with nationwide coverage and no data subscription is required. The solution is very similar to the Air Tag that Apple recently introduced. It is intended for professional use and particularly suitable for smaller work equipment. Asset management contributes significantly to more efficient planning of logistical and financial processes, such as maintenance and inspections, but also to optimal billability towards the client”, says Desmond.

COMPACT. USER FRIENDLY. SAFE.

GPS-Buddy’s asset tracking solution consists of three elements:

  • a compact lightweight tracker attached to company asset. This can be anything from a roller to a saw table or a drilling machine;
  • a receiver 'hub', placed in movable and immovable assets that can be located all over the country: company cars, the head office, the warehouse, the construction site, etc. These wireless receivers pick up the signal from trackers in the vicinity;
  • a central server on which received location data is processed and validated. Privacy and anonymity are guaranteed by anonymous data.

If a tag and a receiver come close to each other, the latter will pass on the tag's exact location to the central server via a unique code. From there, the information is securely transferred to the connected construction or infrastructure company that uses the solution. This way, the company knows exactly where the asset is at any given time.
